Action
Ideas
Here are just some ideas from
ProRail about ways you can help support Midwest Rail, also
know as MRRI or the Midwest Regional Rail
Initiative:
- Contact your city council representative, Mayor,
county board chairman, and county executive, and urge
them to support passenger rail expansion to Madison by
2008. (For a list of many cities, counties and other
public and private organizations which have already done
so, go to the bottom of this section.)
- Join ProRail and WisARP (Wisconsin Association of
Rail Passengers). Encourage others to join, as well.
Follow the Membership
Information link for more details.
- Keep up with developments by visiting ProRail's Web
site (and save the address of http://www.prorail.com as
one of your favorites).
- Sign up for ProRail's free E-News
service.
- Attend ProRail meetings.
- Write letters to the editor of newspapers in your
area, and encourage others to do the same. (Letters need
to follow published guidelines, which vary from
publication to publication. Most newspapers require
letters to be original and not copies to others, and some
also require that they are submitted exclusively.)
- Ride Amtrak.
- Support rail passenger service improvements and
expansion nationwide by joining the National Association
of Railroad Passengers. Click on the Membership
Information link for more information.
- If you haven't already viewed our list of benefits
from the Midwest Rail Initiative, follow the MRRI
Benefits link.. Here are additional things you can do
to increase Congressional support for the High Speed Rail
Investment Act (S.1900/HR. 3700) now pending in Congress:
Drop by or contact the district office of your
Representative and Senators and leave a message. If they
already have agreed to co-sponsor the Act, thank them for
that support. If they have yet to sign on, ask that they
do so.
- Members of the Wisconsin Congressional delegation who
are co-sponsors are:
- Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.)
- Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.)
- Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-2nd)
- Rep. Ron Kind (D-3rd)
- Rep. Gerald Kleczka (D-4th)
- Rep. Tom Barrett (D-5th)
- Those who have yet to sign on are:
- Rep. Paul Ryan (R-1st)
- Rep. Tom Petri (R-6th)
- Rep. David Obey (D-7th)
- Rep. Jay Johnson (D-8th)
- Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-9th)
- For those in the latter group, visit them on the
campaign trail and let them know you support this
legislation and ask them to publicly support it. Make
sure you give them a name and address so they can
respond. Send them an e-mail on the bill (again, include
your name and regular postal address so they can
respond). Attend candidates' town meetings.
- Visit the High-Speed Rail Web site for additional
information and ideas.
